Sheridan Firefighters had there hands full Saturday afternoon with a large two story house fire.
Grant County 911 received the report of a Residential Structure Fire in the 900 block of County Road 4653. The first alarm dispatch consisted of Sheridan Engine-1, 3, 4, Mems Medic 143, Calvert Engine-41, and Center Grove Engine-71, under the command of Sheridan Chief-1. (Grant County runs an aggressive first alarm on all structure fires County-wide)
First Due Companies responded on County Fire Tac-1, and Auto-Aid Companies responded on Fire Tac-2. (Grant County Fire Dept's use a County-wide Fire Tactical Radio System)
While in route, Sheridan Chief-1 requested a tanker response from Calvert and Center Grove added to the First Alarm.
First due Sheridan Asst. Chief-21 arrived and reported heavy fire showing through the roof of the second floor.
Engine-3 arrived soon after with a crew of 5 and pulled two attack lines to the inside of the house. Crews found no fire on the first floor and advanced lines to the second floor.
While on the second floor crews found heavy smoke and heat. Crews forced through the walls and found heavy fire. They worked to hold the fire in check but were forced out 15 minutes later when the roof collapsed.
Crews were able to hold most of the fire to the attic and second floor. The fire was placed under control in 2 hours.
25 Firefighters using 5 Engines, 3 Tankers, 1 Command, 1 Medic and 1 Air and Light Unit. responded to the scene. All units were back in service 4 hours later.
